It is mentioned in the Puranas and Mahabharata that Vrishni-Veer Krishna and Balarama had come here to receive education in the ashram of Guru Sandipani.

Krishna’s wife Mitravrinda was a princess of Ujjain. His two brothers Vind and Anuvind had attained heroic speed while fighting on the side of Kauravas in the Mahabharata war.

In the 6th century AD, there was a very powerful king in Ujjain whose name was Chand Pradyota. Other rulers of India used to fear him.

His love story of Duhita Vasavadatta and Vatsanresh Udayan is famous in history, after the Pradyot dynasty, Ujjain became a part of the Magadha Empire.
