The Bainganga River: Lifeline of Seoni

The Bainganga River, revered by locals, originates from the quaint village of Mundara in Seoni. Its pristine waters flow gracefully, nourishing the land along its banks. At the heart of this lifeline lies the Sanjay Sarovar Dam, a monumental structure and the largest mud dam in Asia. Serving as a vital source of water for agriculture and sustenance, it epitomizes the symbiotic relationship between nature and civilization.

Pench National Park: A Sanctuary of Wilderness

Pench National Park, encompassing the core of the Tiger reserves, holds a special place in the annals of Central India’s natural history. Immortalized by Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book and the legendary character Mowgli, it embodies the untamed beauty of Seoni. With lush greenery spanning 37% of its expanse, the park teems with diverse flora and fauna, inviting adventurers and nature enthusiasts alike.

Geography and Economy: Thriving Amidst Nature’s Bounty

Spanning an area of 8758 sq. km., Seoni district thrives on the fertile lands of the Satpura plateau. Its economy, primarily agrarian, sustains a significant female workforce, contributing to its vibrant tapestry of livelihoods.

Seoni is a city located in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh state of India. It is also the headquarters of the district.

Seoni comes under Jabalpur division. National Highway 44 passes through here. Jabalpur, Mandla and Narsinghpur districts are in its north, Balaghat in the east, Chhindwara in the west and Nagpur (Maharashtra) in the south. Seoni is also known as Lucknow of Madhya Pradesh.

Wainganga River
The origin of the Wainganga river, a tributary of the Godavari, which flows southwards including Vidarbha, is the Mundara pilgrimage site near Pratappur. This river is the lifeline of Balaghat and East Vidarbha including Seoni district. Asia’s largest earthen dam on this river is built at Sanjay Sarovar in Bhimgarh under Chhapara.

Pench National Park
This national park is spread over 757.85 km. It comes under the buffer zone. In this tiger reserve, tiger, nilgai, reindeer, deer, peacock, monkey, black buck, sambar, wild boar, dog and other animals and many types of birds are found in abundance. Are found. Tourists come from far and wide especially to see the tiger. When Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling returned to India and worked here for the next six and a half years. In the story written by The Jungle Book, there is a boy named Mowgli who gets lost in the jungle. He is raised by a pack of wolves and eventually returns to the village. Therefore this district is also known as Pehchan Mongali Land.

• Katalbodi Matridham: This is the birthplace of the mother of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saswati and is a grand temple.
• Ashta- a village in Barghat tehsil where there is a grand temple of Maa Kali ji made of stones.
• Dighori– In Pitrudham, it is the birthplace of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Swaroopanand Saswati. There is a huge grand crystal Shivling temple here.
• Sai Mandir
• Banjari Temple is situated in the middle of Chhapara Lokhnadaun on Jabalpur Road.
• Sealadehi

• Payali is a picnic place located about 27 kilometers away from Ghansaur.
• Gudi Cave (an ancient cave made of rocks), whose internal area is about 25 square meters, is located near village Gudi, 2 kilometers from village Podi, 18 kilometers from Ghansaur.
• There is a wonderful temple of Sati Mai in village Dharna of Tehsil Barghat.
• There is a famous temple of Kaila Mata in Ashta Road in village Dharna.
